Presentation resources
The Roma Community Centre offers presentations to schools and organizations on the origins, history, culture and language of the Roma people.
-
Our mandate is to combat stereotypes regarding the mythological "Gypsy" by presenting the reality of the Roma people to Canadian children and young people.
-
We address the situation of systemic discrimination and persecution in former Soviet-Bloc countries that forces many Roma families to seek Convention-refugee status in Canada.
-
We address issues facing recent arrivals as they attempt to integrate into Canadian society.
-
We can work with your school or organization to jointly create a program that fits your specific needs.
Our presentations can include videos about the Roma people, such as:
-
Refugees From Democracy
– a CBC documentary about Roma in the Czech Republic
-
The Gypsies of Svinia
– an NFB production about Roma in Slovakia
-
Lacho Drom
– the musical journey of the Roma from India to Europe
-
Other resources dealing with the history and culture of the Roma and the Roma Holocaust during WWII
to discuss your presentation needs.
